Analysts have reported that the TrickBot hacker group is actively targeting the Ukrainian population. Apparently, the attackers fully support the actions of the Russian authorities. Therefore, they are actively targeting Ukrainians, seeking to worsen their situation. Specialists interested in online information security courses in Vilnius were able to analyze the attackers' actions.
Who are TrickBot, information security courses online Vilnius
It's worth starting with the fact that TrickBot is a rather dangerous hacker group. They began their activities several years ago and have been actively developing since then. TrickBot's main goal is to extract maximum profit from their victims. It's also important to note that the hacker group is Russian-speaking. And, apparently, its members are patriots of their country. Because some time ago, the attackers teamed up with another patriotic group, Conti. Unfortunately, hackers from both groups fully support a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by their country's troops. They consider it their duty to support the Russian army with attacks on the information front. However, an expert who completed the IT security course in Vilnius doubts they will succeed.
First of all, it's important to understand that Russian hackers most often work directly for the state. Even those who at first glance appear to be seeking only financial gain often find themselves under government cover. Moreover, hackers often team up to inflict maximum damage on another country's IT infrastructure. Of course, such activity is not only illegal worldwide, but also carries undeniable liability for the perpetrators. Therefore, numerous information security experts from various countries have rushed to provide every possible assistance to the Ukrainians.
What are the TrickBot hackers doing?
After the outbreak of full-scale war, the attackers claimed full support for their government. They then began actively attacking Ukrainian civilians. The TrickBot hackers then launched several phishing campaigns. As of the end of June 2022, there were six of them. All of these attacks are extremely large-scale and affect a large number of Ukrainian citizens. Numerous specialists who completed the online information security course in Vilnius took up the investigation.
It is important to note that hackers attack exclusively:
- government authorities;
- citizens of Ukraine;
- various organizations;
- on the population as a whole.
Previously, TrickBot specialized in implanting a banking Trojan into systems. It was designed to steal funds from users' bank accounts. However, for this wave of attacks, the hackers modified their malware. Now, it attacks only systems in which it detects the Ukrainian language. Experts emphasize that until late February, the TrickBot attackers had no interest in Ukraine.
Most phishing emails distributed by cybercriminals prey on Ukrainians' anxieties. They particularly exploit the topic of nuclear war. Therefore, every information security specialist at the Vilnius course reminds everyone not to open emails from unknown users. Furthermore, never download any files from strangers. Otherwise, there's a high risk of becoming a victim of hackers.
